Social Behaviors

The Promoting Healthy Social Behaviors project was designed to assist child care providers in meeting the needs of young children with challenging behaviors.

The Behavior Specialist can:

bullet Provide specialized consultation, technical assistance and training to help teachers identify, prevent and address challenging behaviors in young children
bullet Share techniques that promote social competences in all children in child care
bullet Help providers determine strategies to teach children socially appropriate behaviors
bullet Work with providers to enhance classroom management techniques and promote child-centered learning activities that promote pro social behaviors

Research says that social-emotional skills are directly related to school success.

Children are more likely to be successful in school if they:

bullet Can identify emotions in themselves and others
bullet Can relate to adults and peers in positive ways
bullet Can manage anger, frustration and distress
bullet Enjoy learning and approach it with enthusiasm

Children are less likely to be successful in school if they:

bullet Are frequently aggressive
bullet Engage in oppositional behavior
bullet Constantly seek attention
bullet Are unable to control their impulsive behavior
bullet Are unable to cooperate with others
bullet Ignore peers and adults
